Mychal Vens creates figurative ceramic sculptures that explore who we are and how we choose to show ourselves to the world. Using traditional hand-building techniques, he makes veiled and adorned figures that feel sacred and protected, alongside open, exposed forms that feel honest and vulnerable. Many of his figures avoid clear labels of gender or identity, inviting viewers to see their own stories in the work. A graduate of Youngstown State University and incoming MFA candidate at Alfred University, Mychal pairs technical skill with deeply personal storytelling.
