Jason Shorr is an artist, gallery owner, and art educator, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and currently based in Zelienople. His work has been exhibited at notable venues including The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, The Whitaker Center for Science and Art in Harrisburg, Boxheart Gallery, Moxie DaDa Gallery in Pittsburgh, JMS Gallery in Philadelphia, and most recently in the exhibition Galactic Funk at CURIO Art Gallery & Studio. A long-term collection of his paintings is housed at the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburgh, and his works have been acquired by institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Eaton Corporation.

Throughout much of his career, Shorr has drawn inspiration from medical and scientific subject matter, weaving mythological and personal narratives into paintings and prints that reflect his interest in scientific illustration and human anatomy. His latest body of work shifts toward imagery rooted in early childhood memory—Saturday morning cartoons, retro video game characters, epic space villains, robots, heroes, and monsters—all layered into vivid, neo-Pop compositions.

With Galactic Funk, Shorr memorializes and glamorizes the exuberance of growing up in the 1970s and 80s. His work playfully pays homage to cultural icons, from bubble gum—representing both the brevity and intensity of youth—to figures as disparate as Godzilla and soap opera star Morgan Fairchild, exploring themes of nostalgia, imagination, and the blurred lines between good and evil. Through these vibrant narratives, Shorr invites viewers to reflect on their own childhoods, embracing the joy, spectacle, and sense of limitless possibility that define that formative time of life.
